Humber IEEE Smart City meeting

Meeting organizing smart city project plan, meeting new volunteers and delegating tasks. The current Smart city project is "Smart City Planter" It is a Raspberry Pi Pico W based BLE Mesh device that monitors the soil condition, controls watering and communicates with other plants. It has an RGB LED output to light up the planters and tamper detection. We need people of all stages of the design process. The original design is complete. We need to design the schematic, the circuit board, the 3D case, the software and the BLE stack, debugging/testing. This is a multi-year project and I hope that there will be many people interested in assisting with it. The Use of Gartner’s Analytics Ascendancy Model to Enhance System Reliability: A Convergence of Data Analytics and Knowledge Management Techniques

The proliferation of data acquisition and sensor technology has made enormous amounts of data available to System Engineers (SE) which can facilitate real-time monitoring and enable the creation of reliability models improve operational and maintenance decisions. Gartner’s Analytics Ascendancy Model (AAM) identifies four types of statistical tools in an increasing order. Starting from descriptive statistics, it progresses to diagnostic methods to predictive methods and finally prescriptive analytics. Implementing Knowledge Management (KM) programs can help the SE convert the information from AAM into knowledge and use it to improve system performance. Humber College Competitive Programming Workshops

Dr. Andrew Rudder will be teaching programming concepts with a focus on competitive programming. Various languages may be used. You should be familiar with any of the following programming languages Java, C#, C, C++ or python. A basic knowledge of selection logic (such as if statements), loops and functions are sufficient. This is a prerequisite for Humber IEEE Students attending IEEExtreme competitions. Course continues depending on registration. Course is free. Available to any current Humber students. THE ROLE OF CO-PACKAGED OPTICS IN OUR CONNECTED FUTURE

Progress in computation and communication is increasingly bottlenecked by integrated circuit I/0. CMOS technology scaling has enabled the integration of hundreds of complete modems operating over 100Gbps on a single chip. Whereas optical links were previously reserved for communication over 100's of kilometres, they are now the primary solution for chip-to-chip links above 100 Gbps over any distance beyond a few metres. Co-packaged optics (CPO) bring optics right to the perimeter of our electronic integrated circuits, and may therefore appear to be a natural continuation of this trend. Indeed, PO holds the promise of simultaneously lowering system power consumption, decreasing I/0 latency, and increasing the total bandwidth of chip I/O. And yet, at the same time, it has the potential to increase the power density, increase the cost, and limit the bandwidth density of our chio I/O. This talk will clarify these seeming contradictions, and paint a realistic picture of CPO's role in future connectivity.
