Dr. Carolyn Moorlag received MSc and PhD degrees from the University of British Columbia in Metals and Materials Engineering and Materials Chemistry.  She conducted an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship at the Xerox Research Centre for Canada (XRCC), and then worked at XRCC for 15 years, eventually managing the Materials Integration and Intelligent Devices Lab.  In 2021, she joined Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning as Director of the Centre for Intelligent Manufacturing (CIM) in Brampton, Ontario.  Dr. Moorlag has extensive experience in conducting successful collaborative R&D projects between academia, industry, and government.  She has significant engagement in IP protection processes, with contributions to 123 issued patents.

Dr. Moorlag’s recent research projects cover a range of technology areas and interdisciplinary research.  She is particularly engaged in applied research activities covering flexible manufacturing techniques, developing automated methods, chemical processing, prototyping and product design, and simulation and modeling.  These research activities touch on multiple application areas, such as medical technologies, transportation, power and efficiency, and food production.

Dr. Moorlag is currently on the boards of the Quantum Collaboratory National Scientific Advisory Committee and the Altitude Accelerator, and was the Chair of the NRC Nanotechnology Research Centre (NANO) Advisory Board 2021-24.  At CIM, she partners with community and government institutions including the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), the University Health Network (UHN), IDEA Mississauga, and the Mobility Unlimited Hub (MUH).
