Biography
Dr. Omar Falou received his BSc in Applied Computer Science and his MASc and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University). Following his PhD, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto and the Sunnybrook Research Institute. Dr. Falou is currently a Research Associate and a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at Toronto Metropolitan University.
Dr. Falou’s research interests are at the intersection of artificial intelligence and medical imaging, with a particular focus on deep learning for quantitative ultrasound and photoacoustics imaging. He has published over 40 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Falou has served as a reviewer for the IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics, and Frequency Control and the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. He is the recipient of
numerous awards and scholarships. These include the Ontario Graduate Scholarship, and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Post-Doctoral Fellowship–Ontario Region. Dr. Falou is a founding officer and former treasurer of the IEEE–Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (IEEE–EMBS), Lebanon Section. He also served as a Treasurer of the IEEE–Young Professionals, Toronto Section.
