Biography

Nasim is a post-doctoral fellow at UofT and Vector affiliate researcher, leading a collaborative project between Cyclica Inc. and Vector Institute. She is currently the vice-chair of Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society of IEEE Toronto section. Nasim obtained her Ph.D. in electrical and computer engineering from University of Manitoba and has M.Sc. and B.Sc. in biomedical engineering. With her passion for developing and applying novel machine learning techniques for improving the quality of health care, she has conducted numerous research projects on enhancing biomedical imaging and image processing for breast cancer detection and monitoring. Her current research is focused on graph-based machine learning algorithms that can predict proteins’ biological functions from their 3D structures, with a promise to enhance designing novel medicines. Nasim is an advocate for women in STEM and serves as vice-chair of IEEE Canada Women in Engineering and was recognized as “Emerging Leader” for her leadership contributions.
